Eating Mooncake (3) – Matching Drinks and Food
Families always prepare also other foods to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, other than mooncakes. The right matches are very important for elderly to avoid digestion problem.
1. Drinks – as mooncake are quite sweet in general, don’t consume any drinks that are also sweet along with mooncake, e.g. softdrinks, fruit juice. Tea gets along with mooncake the best. Oolong and Pu-Er can reduce the grease while green tea can avoid sugar intake.
2. Fruit – fruit that are sour match mooncake better, e.g. orange, grapefruit, kiwi etc, so as to reduce the grease as well as help the digestion. Fruits that are sweet e.g. apple, watermelon, should be avoided to reduce burden to digestion system.
Moreover, as elderly take longer time to digest, don’t eat mooncake too late at night!
